Compensation: $60,000 - $70,000/ year, dependant on experience

About the Role:

The Payroll & Benefits Administrator is a people-focused stickler for the details. This position is responsible for biweekly payroll processing, health & benefits program administration, as well as reporting and analyzing data with the goal of implementing process improvements. 

This position requires someone with a proactive,  positive attitude and the ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities simultaneously with competing deadlines. In addition to possessing good judgment and developed problem-solving skills, the Payroll & Benefits Administrator must possess a high degree of initiative and exercise discretion when handling details of a confidential and critical nature. This position requires a team player with strong organizational skills, detail orientation and the desire to help others!

Responsibility Breakdown:

The Payroll Administrator is responsible for ensuring all employees are paid in accordance with Dayforce’s bi-weekly payroll schedule in and the terms and conditions of employment as prescribed by policy, employment contracts and legislative requirements.  Primary tasks include entering and verifying payroll data, processing employee payments, preparing T200 and ROE’s, gathering data for the preparation of adjustments, monthly and annual payroll reconciliations and payroll remittances.

Approximate time breakdown: 45% Payroll, 35% Benefits, and 25% HR Initiatives and Administration

Some of the things you’ll get paid to do:

Payroll Processing

  • Ensure timely and accurate biweekly payroll processing in Dayforce
  • Collect, input, verify, and process payroll data while maintaining compliance
  • Manage hourly timesheets, time-off policies, and payroll-related inquiries
  • Identify and resolve payroll discrepancies and recommend process improvements
  • Maintain confidential payroll records and prepare for external audits
  • Perform routine payroll reconciliations, internal audits, and year-end reporting (T4s, ROEs)
  • Assist with month-end and year-end processes, including statistical reporting

Benefits & Employee Savings Plan Administration

  • Administer employee health benefits, including enrollments, updates, and terminations
  • Process plan changes (leaves, new dependents, salary adjustments) and maintain accurate records
  • Conduct regular audits of benefits and savings plan contributions
  • Assist with disability management and work accommodation plans
  • Oversee employee savings plans (RRSP, RESP, DPSP), ensuring timely updates and compliance
  • Provide plan details to new members and respond to inquiries
  • Collaborate with the HR Manager on annual reviews for benefits and savings plans

HR Administration & Support

  • Maintain and update employee records, databases, and confidential documents
  • Track HR data, run reports, and support analytics initiatives
  • Draft employment-related documents and coordinate employee training (Dayforce, benefits, savings plans)
  • Manage employee milestone tracking and updates
  • Track employee absences and communicate with employees regarding leave status, return-to-work procedures, and required documentation
  • Stay up to date with HR and Employment Standards legislation
  • Communicate and enforce company policies while fostering positive employee relations
  • Process Form 7s (Workplace Injury Reports) and follow up on claims as needed
  • Support joint health & safety tasks, special HR projects, and internal/external company events
  • Other tasks as assigned

About You

Required Education & Experience

  • College diploma, certification, or university degree in Human Resources or a related field
  • Minimum 2 years of payroll processing experience
  • Minimum 1 year of benefits administration experience
  • Proficiency in MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Google Apps
  • Experience with payroll, benefits, and HRIS software (Dayforce experience is an asset)
  • Strong understanding of payroll regulations and compliance
  • PCP certification is an asset
