Hours of work: Monday to Friday, 40 hours per week, 8:00am - 4:00pm (may need to work outside of core hours from time to time)

Compensation: $65,000/ year, dependant on experience

About the Role:

The Quality Assurance (QA) Specialist ensures that all ingredients, processes, products, equipment, and facilities conform to the highest safety and quality standards. The QA Specialist loves diagnosing and solving problems as they arise, but spends most of their time working on systems of prevention to ensure that daily production runs smoothly. With a keen understanding of how things should be done, the QA Specialist is a team player who is always happy to share knowledge and make sure that everyone is on the same page.

Some of the things you’ll get paid to do:

General

  • Ensure HACCP compliance and updates
  • Maintain and enforce quality and safety policies
  • Prevent recurrence of quality errors in operations
  • Implement and interpret QA standards
  • Oversee sample-taking, testing, and inspections
  • Lead food recall processes
  • Assess and manage allergen risks at supplier and onsite facilities
  • Audit co-packing facilities and ensure compliance
  • Manage product holds, inventory, and primary packaging controls
  • Serve as ERP power user
  • Investigate customer complaints and non-conformances
  • Ensure audit readiness and regulatory compliance
  • Manage quality control equipment and food safety materials
  • Provide client support on food safety
  • Other duties as assigned

  • Training

  • Identify and organize quality-related training
  • Facilitate and document food safety training
  • Train production staff on ingredient handling and storage
  • Process Improvement

  • Develop and implement quality and safety improvement plans
  • Lead interdepartmental projects to enhance quality systems
  • Establish internal and supplier audit processes
  • Collect and analyze quality data for improvements
  • About You

    Required Education & Experience

    • Bachelor’s degree in food science-related field; eg: microbiology
    • A minimum of 4+ years in a quality control position with a food manufacturer(s) 
    • Quality inspection, auditing, and testing experience
    • Experience in a HACCP environment
    • Strong computer competence, including Microsoft Office & ERP systems

    Nice-to-haves

    • Certifications as a quality auditor, quality engineer, or quality improvement associate
    • Exposure to quality management software 
    • Change management experience an asset

    • Outstanding attention to detail
    • Ability to work in a team setting as well as work independently with minimal supervision
    • Proficiency in MS Office applications, exposure to quality management software & tools, and ability to learn new software as required
    • Highly organized with the ability to work in a fast-paced, diverse environment
    • Results-oriented and self-motivated
    • Highly analytical with the ability to use a systematic process for identifying root causes of challenges/events and an approach for responding to them
